POKEMON HEIGHT AND WEIGHT

OVERVIEW OF POKEMON HEIGHT AND WEIGHT

In the Pokemon world, Height and Weight play an important role not only in a Pokemon’s biological characteristics but also in various game mechanics, including Move, Ability, Item, and battle participation rules.

Typically, when a Pokemon evolves, its Height and Weight increase, except in certain cases such as Gloom evolving into Bellossom, Porygon evolving into Porygon2, or Cosmog evolving into Cosmoem.

It’s important to note that the Height and Weight values listed in the Pokemon Dictionary are only standard measurements. In reality, Pokemon can be larger or smaller than these values depending on their diet, environment, or other individual factors.

HOW HEIGHT AND WEIGHT ARE DETERMINED

  • Height: The measurement of a Pokemon’s height or length, calculated from the feet or tail to the top of its head.
  • Weight: The total mass of a Pokemon.

SPECIAL CASES OF POKEMON WITH UNUSUALLY LARGE SIZE

  1. Totem Pokemon: These Pokemon bathe in energy emitted by Necrozma from the Ultra Wormhole, causing them to grow larger than usual and emit a radiant aura around their bodies.
  2. Alpha Pokemon: These Pokemon are affected by lightning strikes from Space-time Distortion caused by Giratina, awakening their Wild Might and making them larger and significantly more aggressive.
  3. Titan Pokemon: Pokemon that consume Herba Mystica over a long period grow to massive sizes and gain immense strength. When defeated, they return to their normal size.
  4. Dynamax Pokemon: Pokemon exposed to Galar Particle energy released by Eternatus undergo Dynamax, becoming enormous in size. They revert to normal after three turns, when defeated, or when recalled.
  5. Gigantamax Pokemon: Similar to Dynamax, but with an additional form change exclusive to certain Pokemon species.

HEIGHT INTERACTIONS IN POKEMON GAME MECHANICS

1. Moves

  • Minimize: Allows a Pokemon to shrink its size, increasing Evasion.

2. Game Mechanics

  • In Pokemon Black 2/White 2, owning a Pokemon ≤ 0.2m (or ≥ 5.0m) allows the player to receive a Poké Doll.
  • In Pokemon X/Y, owning a Pokemon ≤ 0.2m (or ≥ 3.0m) allows the player to receive a Poké Doll.
  • Pokemon ≥ 0.8m are ineligible to participate in the Pokemon Jump contest, except for Chikorita and Kirlia.
  • Pokemon ≥ 2.0m are ineligible to participate in the Fancy Cup.
  • Pokemon ≥ 2.6m cannot be released from their Poké Ball indoors unless they have a snake-like body (exceptions: Rayquaza and Steelix).
  • Pokemon ≤ 1.0m and still capable of evolving are eligible to participate in the Tiny Tourney Wi-Fi Competition.

WEIGHT INTERACTIONS IN POKEMON GAME MECHANICS

1. Moves

  • Low Kick: Damage scales based on the target’s Weight; the heavier the target, the harder it falls.
  • Grass Knot: Damage scales based on the target’s Weight; the heavier the target, the harder it falls.
  • Heavy Slam: Damage scales based on the user’s Weight; the heavier the user, the stronger the move.
  • Heat Crash: Damage scales based on the user’s Weight; the heavier the user, the stronger the move.
  • Autotomize: Reduces the Pokemon’s Weight by 100kg per use, with a minimum weight of 0.1kg.
  • Sky Drop: The move cannot be used on targets ≥ 200kg, as they are too heavy to be lifted.

2. Abilities

  • Heavy Metal: Doubles the Pokemon’s Weight.
  • Light Metal: Halves the Pokemon’s Weight, with a minimum weight of 0.1kg.

3. Items

  • Heavy Ball: Catch rate increases based on the target Pokemon’s Weight; heavier Pokemon are easier to catch.
  • Float Stone: Halves the Pokemon’s Weight, with a minimum weight of 0.1kg.

4. Game Mechanics

  • Pokemon ≥ 20kg are ineligible to participate in the Fancy Cup.
  • Pokemon ≥ 99kg are ineligible to participate in the Light Cup.
